An arrest has been made after a man was knocked unconscious outside a Southampton nightclub in the early hours.

Police are investigating the incident which happened opposite Café Parfait at around 3.30am this morning.

It is reported the man was assaulted on Above Bar Street between the Commercial Road sign and a lamp post.

Following enquiries, a 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in custody at this time.

But the identity of the victim remains unknown, and police are urging him and any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “We are yet to identify and speak with the victim of this assault, and appeal directly for him to come forward so we can talk to him about what happened and ensure he is ok.
