A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a crash near Northam Bridge in Southampton.
At around 2am on Sunday, police were called to Bitterne Road West due to a collision between two cars.
Upon arrival, police arrested a 28-year-old man from Winchester on suspicion of committing a number of offences, including being over the legal limit for alcohol.
The 28-year-old was also arrested for driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Police confirmed that the driver remains in police custody.
The incident led Southampton City Council to tell drivers to seek alternative routes - but the blockage was cleared by 3am.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "We were called at 2.05am this morning, Sunday, April 21, to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on Bitterne Road West.
"Officers attended and arrested a 28-year-old man from the Winchester area on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level is above the limit, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.
"No injuries have been reported.
"He remains in police custody at the current time."
