Ipswich move in for Skacel
RUDI SKACEL
RUDI SKACEL

Ipswich look set to move for Saints star Rudi Skacel.

Jim Magilton's side are poised to offer about £1m for the Czech Republic international who has been at St Mary's for two years.

It is believed Saints would be prepared to sell Skacel, who is a relatively high wage earner, as long as the price is right.

And Ipswich, flushed with cash after their recent takeover, look to be ready to strike a deal with Simon Hunt, the man who helped bring Skacel to the UK with Hearts and then to Saints under George Burley, now head of international scouting and recruitment at Portman Road.

18-1 for the championship title.

skacel has turned down 18k a week at Hertha Berlin, must be a good deal on the table.

Ipswich seem to be building on the investment brought in last season. A club similar to ours in many respects, apart from our distinct lack of cash at the moment.

Could be a good move all round, Rudi never seemed to settle (never recaptured the form he showed at Hearts) although clearly he's given up on his international career if he's contemplating a move to Ipswich. £1m in the bank plus a drop in the wage bill may allow us to hang on to Stern John and Drew Surman.

Looking through the Ipswich version of the Echo website it seems the Tractor Boys want Kelvin Davis back too. Seems that they know Richard Wright's not up to a full season and want back up. I'm off this week so I can always drive him and Rudi up to Portman Road- provided they pay the petrol of course.

You have to hand it to rupert, one thing he has always done is get top dollar for players. 1 million for skacel, bite their hand off.

Which was about his only contribution.

Flattered to decieve, this is one player I'd gladly let you sell Rupert - £1M???

Bite their hands off...

Another disappointing wearer of the hallowed Saints No7 shirt.

£1m for Rudi Skacel is deal of the century. I would bite their hand off too. Its unlikely we will get any higher bids for the waste of space, and apparently his wages are extremely high! Get him out quick I say!
Posted by: realist on 10:57am Wed 9 Jul 08
he's apparently on 12,000 a week, talk about an expensive luxury. I for one was excited by the signing, thinking he was the sort of classy player who'd be good for us. But what a disappointment. you can't blame George for that, either, cos he scored a hatful of goals at Hearts.
Probably the easy life got to him - like it looks like getting to Rasiak - so a million is a good deal, even if we have lost 600,000 over two years, it at least gets him off the wage bill. Bye bye Rudi.

Lets get real for a minute - Skacel may not have been a star in every match or single handedly won us promotion, but when played at left wing he did pretty well. He scored a few decent goals and set up others. He is not a Premiership star but he is closer than the majority of our players yes he was frustrating at times but that what you get at our level. Check our form after Burley stopped playing him there, or at all. Sounds like a deal we need to do but I would rather we had him.

I would like to see Skacel stay, but if he wants out, we obviously don't want players who don't want to be at the club. I believe Skacel's been a good player for us, people aren't happy cos they haven't seen him score 16 goals like he did for Hearts. I think he played a cental midfield role at Hearts (could be wrong) & he did well for us when he played at Left Back.

From what I've heard (just rumours mind) Stern John, Kelvin Davis, Michael Poke, Jhon Viafara & possibly Marek Saganowski will be the next ones to go. Guess we'll have to wait & see what sort of state the squad is in next month.

I personally think we should sell K.Davis (750k ?) & buy back Chris Baird for around £1million, Bring in Clinton Morrison on a free (sell John for around £1million - after all he did get 20 goals last season) & bring in a couple more defenders, possibly Telfer on a one yr contract, low wages also.

COYR!

I was saying John might be going over a week ago and got slated for it. Be careful what you say.

Could be wrong, but I think the days of us buying any of the more obvious established names are gone Steve – I don't see us buying the likes of Morrison or Baird, more likely less high-profile players from here and abroad.

And to be honest I'm glad.

I've seen enough mercenaries in recent times who just haven't done the business.

We've still got a few to be honest – players who are obviously talented but aren't quite as good as they think they are.

I'd put Skacel and Viafara in this category to be honest – show glimpses, but not anything like often enough and seem to accept defeat too easily.

Morrison is undoubtably a bad influence on the dressing room judging by his Palace days and will want a wage packet we can't afford – whoever buys him is welcome to him if you ask me, even if he scores a few goals.

At the end of the day though, that doesn't say much in a league where Stern John and Phillips are top of the scoring charts.

I'm personally quite excited about the new season and would be happy with any type of finish (bar relegation) if it's clear the we're trying to do things the right way with players that want to play for our club.

It might be the fresh start we need and give us the chance to ditch the losing mentality that's clearly got to the players and the fans.

I'm also reasonably pleased with the way the club is being run for once.

Saw Ranson and Coleman on the TV this morning and have to say that takeover seems to have had little or no effect.

When you consider new owners usually invest heavily to start with (and Ranson's gang obviously hasn't even done that), I think you've got to say it would have been another false dawn for us.

Jason, I have to agree. I've seen too many players come into the club on the promise of greatness only to disappoint. If you look at our best signings in recent years they have been for lesser players- who heard of Beattie before we signed him? who wanted Crouch after his previous form?

Skacel was never fully fit and never appeared that bothered. He played well in the cup v Bury last season but other than that it was fits and starts stuff.

If Coventry aren't reaping the benefit of investment perhaps it was a blessing in disguise that Ranson didn't come here after all.

It seem that the Lowe swing o meter is swinging towards Lowe this week, with most people happy with the way the club is going under this leadership.

I don't think many fans would be happy in the long term if we were buying players and then ending up in administration. Look at the situation Leeds are in.

Good on Ipswich, Gb & RL wasted money on Skacel when we already had better players at the club. We must now cash in on old failures John, Rasiak, Saganoski, Viafara and Euall. We might then be able to keep improving younger players like Surman, Lalana and Davis.

Burley wasted a hell of a lot of money in the Summer of 06 and we had nothing in the pot when we needed to strengthen in the January window (as Sunderland and Birmingham did).

Failures like John, would that be because he didnt score any goals for us last season then?
I bet you went to all the home games.

First of all I wouldn't consider the likes of Rasiak or Stern John as failures, both players who are capable of scoring 15-20 goals in this league & have. We're gonna have to score an awful lot of goals this coming season if we're even gonna have sniff of competing.

I'm also very happy with the new structure & giving the youth a chance, looking to the future. With the clubs lack of money, this is the best thing we could have done. I'm also happy with some of the deadwood we've let go (J.Wright, Powell, Idiakez etc), but I feel the likes of Rasiak, Skacel still have a role to play. I believe that a blend of youth & experience is the way forward, but I fear that we're gonna have too much youth & not enough experience. This season is going to be tough, with 6 teams on parachute payments & others with rich sugar daddys, we better hope these kids can compete. Ever the optimist though I believe we'll finnish in the top 10 (hopefully top 6).

I dont see how you can call john or Rasiak failures. Both have scored 20 goals in the seasons they have played. With out their goals we would be a failure! So I think it is wrong to say that they were failures. Euell may have been a failure but he was only on a free transfer so we cant really hope for too much there. And Saganowski I think is a good player but just a bit unlucky. I think we need to be able to keep all of these if possible.

I'm more concerned about how many players we are going to sell and/or release (was it just me, or did the official website - if anyone bothers to read it - try and hide the release list at the bottom of an article on Baseya leaving? And do they publish in and out transfers any more or has it got too embarressing? And for those who want us to buy (or buy back) players for a million - have you been paying attention? Free transfers of low wage players if we're lucky and youth. Still, may work...

They cannot put the ins and outs of players on the website as there wont be no ins so thats a waste of space and the outs would shut the wbsite down as it is to many pages long!!!

Tellytext were saying the Skacel was off, due to wage demands.
