Birmingham sign ex-Saints striker Phillips

Birmingham have signed former Saints striker Kevin Phillips on a free transfer from West Brom.

The 34-year-old former England international had been holding out for a two-year contract at the Hawthorns but Albion were only prepared to offer one year.

Phillips, who scored 46 goals in 81 appearances for Albion, has now opted to join Blues on a two-year contract.

He netted 24 goals in 38 appearances last season and was named West Brom's player of the year and included in the PFA Championship team of the year.

Geeky question: does that make him the first player to play for all three Birmingham clubs? Villa, Albion and Blues?

Why does the Echo persist in putting stories about players who no longer play for Southampton FC?

Instead of cutting and pasting from Sky Sports News, why dont you try and get some exclusive stories about Saints? Or is that too much like hard work?

what about wolves? They play in Wolverhapton. The others are in Birmingham.
Just a bit of football trivia to keep the ball rolling, that's all.

Wrong. It's a district of Birmingham, like Moseley or Edgbastion or Edgeley or Bournville or Solihiull. Or Bitterne, Sholing, Millbrook, Bassett or Redbridge.
It's when you get out to Sutton Coldfield that you're looking at the Eastleighs and Romseys and Chandlers Fords.
Ask any Brummie (if you can understand the reply!!)
